In sand casting 3D printing technology, sand molds <\/strong>are made from fine quartz sand <\/strong>. These are used, for example, for grey and steel casting <\/strong>and for the production of castable metals such as aluminum<\/strong>, brass<\/strong> or magnesium <\/strong>. In addition to prototype or tool production <\/strong>, sand casting molds from the 3D printer are also used for the production of designer furniture<\/strong>, for restorations<\/strong>, in architecture <\/strong>and in the aerospace<\/strong> industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furan Direct Binding (FDB)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Furan direct binding (FDB)<\/strong> is used in the production of the sand molds. The particle material (quartz sand)<\/strong> is applied to the construction surface in thin layers and selectively printed and bonded with binder by a high-resolution print head in accordance with the component data. These work steps are repeated until the desired component height is reached. Unbonded material residues are then removed. Some 3D printers that use the FBD process also use plastic, such as PMMA <\/strong>(polymethyl methacrylate), as a material.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n
